DFTBA Newsletter From John Green

Hi there, nerds.

I’m John Green, and this is the not-as-monthly-as-it-should-be DFTBA Records newsletter. Let’s do this numerically, since I’m so good at math:

1. You may remember that in January of last year we were able to make a special edition audiobook of The Fault in Our Stars narrated by me accompanied by, among other things, a DVD containing videos of me discussing the book. Well, it’s back! Preorder the second edition of the TFiOS audiobook now and it will ship to you in about a month (it takes a while to make all those fancy boxes).

2. All is well in the new DFTBA warehouse and fulfillment outlet in Missoula, Montana, which used to be a daycare center. With wall murals depicting sunshine and rainbows, it is the happiest warehouse on earth, although admittedly that is a low bar to jump over.

3. As it is summer (at least in the northern hemisphere), you may be receiving pressure to leave the Internet and go outside on occasion. And when you are outside, you may need to protect yourself from the searing heat of the sun. I recommend sunscreen and also CLOTHES. We have many great shirts at the moment: You can show off your love for Gatsby with Daisy Buchanan Thinks You’re a Beautiful Fool, or your love of corgis with thefrogman’s corgi shirt. Whether you want to share your love of The Brain Scoop or Periodic Videos or Minute Physics or Sanditon or bacon or corndogs that aren’t really corndogs, we’ve got you covered.

4. Also, if you are going to leave the house, you may wish to protect your neck with necklaces (or your butt with buttons?). I really love Karen Kavett’s handmade dftba necklaces. And lovers of obscure punctuation will enjoy Kavett’s lovely handmade interrobang necklace.

5. But maybe after careful analysis you don’t want to go outside because your room is so magnificently climate controlled. Fear not: We have posters to make life in your room more enjoyable. When The Fault in Our Stars came out, we were able to release a limited-edition audiobook version narrated by me along with a DVD featuring videos of me talking about the book, a ticket to a concert featuring The Hectic Glow, a Hectic Glow wristband, and postcards featuring scenes from the book.

I’m delighted to announce that a new edition of this audiobook and DVD box set is now available for preorder at dftba.com. (It will look just like what you see above, only the wristband is a light blue.)

So if you want to hear me read you the book, now you can.

This is possible because of support from Penguin and my real audiobook publisher, Brilliance Audio, so thanks to them.

So a bit over a year ago, we released an audiobook box set of The Fault in Our Stars, narrated by John Green himself. This run was limited to 3,000 copies.

Well now we’ve been granted the privilege to make a second edition available! This box set includes:

- Six CDs of John Green reading The Fault in Our Stars.
- One DVD including eight bonus videos in which John discusses themes from the book, visits settings, talks about different inspirations, and explores the ways the nerdfighter community shaped (and made possible) the story he ended up writing.
- A wristband for The Hectic Glow, a band so beautifully underground that they don’t even exist. (light blue, different from those received in 1st edition box sets)
- An awesome concert ticket for The Hectic Glow, a concert so epic that it never technically occurred.
